get an adapter, then it doesnt matter and you can focus more on getting a really nice straightener.
Chi's are good for most people, but dont work for everyone, which is why theres a risk when buying one.
I personally have a Solia. (someone on yahoo answers said it was a salon quality straightener)
Im in love with it, it doesnt fry my hair at all, leaves it smooth, but does an excellent job of straightening it, and the adjustable temperature is easy.
