How do you clean a hair straightener?

when i turn my straightener on and it heats up, it smells like burnt hair....how do you get rid of that? should i just buy a new one or is there a way to get rid of that smell by cleaning it? please, if you dont know, don't answer with unrelated comments. How do you clean a hair straightener?
rubbing alcohol!!!!How do you clean a hair straightener?
when i clean mine, i use a q-tip with rubbing alcohol. but obviously, do it when it's off and unplugged!
I think th at the best and safest way to clean it is to unplug it ( safety first!) and then get a wet cloth or sponge, and wipe it off. Then dry it with a dry napkin or cloth, and plug it in! But if your straightener still smells, then you need to buy a new one because the stuff is burnt on beyond repair.Best of luck!
When it's cool, spray it with Windex and scrub it. It should be okay if you do that a couple times.
do u use gel, hairspray, or any other products on your hair BEFORE you straigten it?

if so,

thats just the products your using.

all you have to do is with warm water,

CAREFULLY

scrub your straightner with an old hard bristle tooth brush.

it should work,

thats what i do to clean mine.

hope this helps.
When a curling iron or straightener gets a build up of hair spray etc, it will smell odd and will also turn brown. I sugest oven cleaner. I have used it for years on all my curling irons. (I own 4 hair salons)... Of course do it when it is off and cold. A light spray on the iron.. wait about 10 minutes and wash away.. You will have, what looks like, a BRAND NEW iron! About every three months should be great!
